Who Declared War?

There has been much international publicity on Sydney's "race riots". The publicity machine would have us believe that the beach suburbs including my old neighbourhoods of Maroubra (70's) and Cronulla (90's) and just down the road from us (about 2-3 blocks), Brighton-Le-Sands are a no-go area closed to all traffic because war has been declared between the haves and the have nots, the Anglo-Saxons and the ethnic races, the southerners (southern suburb locals) and the westies (out west local inhabitants). Much TV news footage has been shown all over the world of a garbage bin on fire (one council street-side garbage bin), Police securing the local Shell petrol station (yanks=gas station), the forecourt was used as a staging area by the cops, an Australian flag burning in the street set alight by an "Arab looking" youth, who has had his day in court and been refused bail. Nothing to do with the new laws on sedition or riot but because the local magistrate said his record was longer than his arm.
Yes there was violence. Yes there was a mob. Yes it was ugly. Yes people were injured some very seriously. The weather was hot and steamy. Much drink was drunk and I'm not talking Fanta. The initial melee goes on most weekends. Life savers have been harassed for decades, even in my time down on Maroubra beach. Those speedos leave very little to the imagination, teenagers wearing them inflate and deflate all the time, others who voice their disapproval are just taking out their frustrations on whatever is at hand or whoever. The machismo that dominates some ethnic cultures leaves young males out on a limb just like any other culture...if you don't conform to the norm which is defined as majority rules.
What I found despicable was when the rough-stuff was ended by the cops instead of going home and calling it quits, certain elements went home to regroup, arm, plan tactics and then commit raids on innocent passers by as payback for the events earlier that afternoon. This continued for two days forcing the police to close down entire suburbs. This is un-Australian. This is shameful. We can all point the finger at other countries, the mere mention of "Rodney King" would have people saying that could never happen here. Australians don't behave like that.
For those guys who feel proud to cram themselves into cars after filling the boot (yanks=trunk), with bars, clubs, wood and other weapons and then drive into suburbs looking to make things "right" by bashing people of a different coloured skin, religion or ethnicality I hope you all get caught and the judges don't go soft on you, that they put you in gaol (yanks=jail), where you belong. You have forfeited the right to be free. Those that protect these people, harbour them and run interference on their behalf should get accommodations in the cell right next door to their mates.

Date: 2005-12-23 01:04 pm (UTC)constantly on the prowl for images which will rachet up the
ratings for a sensation-hungry public. And along with this,
publicity-conscious creeps who never met a camera they
didn't like. So "incidents" which ordinarily might be kept local and controlled are front page all over the world. I
mean, geez, I even asked Clay if he was ok, and he yawned,
"Yeah, we're fine." I mean, Australia has race problems?
That's NEWS? Gimme a break. Give us ALL a break!
